Untold Character Interview!

Hello again, friends! The sun is shining, the air is cooling, and most of the trees in my neighborhood are turning my favorite fall color: bright, bold, and flaming red! I hope you're all as excited for fall as I am, although as an avid fall lover I don't know if that's quite possible.

If you checked out last week's post (which, if you haven't read it, can be found here: Untold Book Launch! (notebynoteforjesus.blogspot.com) then you may remember that I'm helping Vanessa Hall with her most recent book launch, Untold. Here are the Goodreads and Purchase links.

Last week I included an author interview; this week I have the pleasure of presenting a character interview! Without further ado, here is my interview with Nikolai Alexandrov. I hope you enjoy it!

What has been your hardest challenge since leaving the CIA?

Probably sound cooler if I said turning into another person and forming a new life was the hardest challenge, but that really wasn’t—we were trained to do stuff like that. The hardest challenge is day-to-day life and knowing there’s no going back. There will always be the question if someone’s behind me, if someone’s discovered my cover, and I’ll have to deal with the repercussions of being an officer for the rest of my life.

What is your biggest regret from your former life? How do you cope with that regret?

*Nick chuckles wryly* How long do I have for this interview? I regret countless choices I’ve made—starting with joining the CIA and all that did to my family. But in the end, I’ve been washed by the Blood of Jesus. There’s no condemnation, the Word says, to those who are in Christ and walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit.

If you could have one hope come true in the future, what would that hope be?

For my personal life … there’s this girl I’m pretty sweet on. *Nick grins* Love to marry her someday, if that’s the Lord’s Will.

What is your favorite way to pass the time?

Recently, talking with Molly. *another grin* But any sort of strategy game is fun. My friend Gregor and I play Durak—a Russian card game—almost every night. Molly and I also play chess sometimes, and I’m still trying to beat her. She’s such a pro.

How has your life in the CIA bled over into your new life, if at all?

That training’s always engrained in you. I still catch myself listening in to casual conversations and questioning innocent statements that people make to determine their loyalties. And living under a new identity uses the skills I learned in the CIA every day. In the end, once in the CIA, always in the CIA.

What have been noticeable changes in your life since you became a Christian?

When you’re saved, God changes you, and it’s especially evident when you’re saved as an adult like I was. The drinking, the cussing, the lying … it all had to stop. (Doesn’t mean I’m perfect by any stretch of the imagination—I still mess up every day.) I had to learn to look at people differently, not just as assets. I’m still learning to deny myself, to lean only on the Lord for my strength, to kill this stupid ego of mine. There’s a lot that needed and still needs changing. Sanctification isn’t an overnight deal—it’s a lifelong process.

If you could travel to one place you’ve never been before, where would you go?

A tour of the western US. Never been there, and probably never will.

If you could pick one job for a day, what would you choose?

Working with missionaries in sketchy countries in Eastern Europe. I have a fair amount of knowledge about Eastern Europe, and it’s be great to use my skills for something godly.

Author’s Commentary: Apologies for Nick being a little cagey - he’s not big on sharing his true thoughts/feelings in front of lots of people. However, he was very appreciative of your kind questions. :)

And thank you so much for the interview, Rachael Anne! :) It was very fun.
